How we rank

We only trust a review as much as the process that goes behind it at Tool Home. This is why we ensure a uniform, transparent, and in-depth scoring system for all the products we review. We hope that the detailed product reviews available on this site give you a better, more practical idea of performance – because the numbers on paper only tell part of the story.

Our 5-Point Rating System

5 (Outstand) - 0 (Poor), with every product receiving an individual score No one - not even a car that gets an "A" from us - gets extra credit in our ratings; we don't just throw perfect scores around like inexpensive candy at a parade.

We score based on several criteria based on the product category. Although some check points vary, we evaluate for the following:

Build Quality & Design

We examine the quality of material, workmanship, and overall build quality. Is it sturdy? Is the design user-friendly? Will it hold up over time?

Performance & Functionality

We put the product through its paces and see if it can deliver on its promises. Is it streamlined, quick, and effective? Is it reliable in the results?

Ease of Use

Nobody wants to go to battle with convoluted controls or misleading instructions. We evaluate the user-friendliness of the product, considering how easy it is to use, assemble, clean, and store.

Durability & Longevity

We think long-term, not first impressions. Is the product overall durable? Does it show wear or fail or nickigns over time?

Price vs. Value

Expensive products need not get a high score. In other words, we compare what it costs with how much it actually delivers —and that includes performance, features, and reliability.

User Feedback & Reputation

While we include some of our own testing with these products, we also look for verified users reviews and experiences where users have come across consistent issues or standout features.

Weighted Scoring System

Not every category is created equal So, for instance, maybe performance matters more than looks. There are tools for which portability is less important than durability. And this is why we apply varying levels of weight according to product type.

Here is a simple example of how we may decompose a score for a powered hand tool for the house:

• Usefulness – 30%

• Build Quality & Design – 20%

• Ease of Use – 15%

• Durability – 20%

• Value for Money – 15%

All the factors are reviewed individually, scored and combined in to a final score to allow you to compare products quickly.

Why It Matters

It has zero to do with flaunting numbers - our ranking system is about confidence. You will always be smart enough to know why such a score of a product has landed on it, and you are whether fit for your needs or not.

Each product is treated with care, consistency, and is tested without influence from outside entities.
